Website Optimisation Suggestions

Hi All,

So my BP site goes 'live' on Friday, it's not perfect but good enough to get out the door and start promoting.

I've been working on optimisation and just wanted to get any further improvements as I really want to get this site loading in 2-3 seconds (UK)

    Hello Graham,

I hope you are well today. Thank you for your question.

Your site loaded fairly quick for me. And your report looks pretty good. However, here are a couple suggestions that might help a bit.

    * Resize your images instead of using HTML and CSS to scale their dimensions. Anytime your browser has to do the work to scale large images down, it's going to impact performance. If you need an 80x80 image, scale the image yourself on your computer and upload it rather than use HTML/CSS to scale it.

    * I see you are using W3 Total Cache, but you're not leveraging all of its features. You may want to enable and set more aggressive settings in Network Admin -> Performance -> Browser Cache.

Given the nature of 3rd party scripts, like Gravatar, and the fact that you're using a CDN, there's not a lot you can do about the section "Serve resources from a consistent URL". However, you can disable some features, such as Gravatars to improve this score.

Other than that, you're looking pretty good. Let us know if you have any further questions. We'll be happy to help!

    Best regards,

    James Morris

    Hello Graham,

Browser caching is independent of what plugins you are using. Basically, it will cache CSS, Javascript and Images on the visitor's local computer.

Here is an excellent article that explains a great deal about caching:

I hope this clarifies things a bit for you.
