What is the best option for a home page?

My site has to be in two languages, Spanish & Portuguese. I need a Home or Landing page where visitors can choose to enter the site clicking the language of preference. What would be the best way to do this?

    Hello there,

Greetings and thanks for posting on the forums.

To create a landing page you can use a plugin like : http://wordpress.org/plugins/landing-pages/ or http://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-landing-pages/

We also have a holder theme here : https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/holder-theme/ which you can use on your main site

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers

Thanks for your reply. My project was put away for some time due to personal situations, but now I’m ready to pick up where I left off. I looked at your suggestions, but I still need to be sure this is the right way to do it. The thing is, my instructions are to build two identical sites, one in Spanish and one in Portuguese, with a forum that would be the same for both groups. I plan to use the multisite option to make it easier for me to work this out. The home page would be static, with some pictures and the two links for Español and Português.

I’m still stuck with the home page. I even thought that maybe making just an index.html page for the home page with links to the two WordPress sites would do it…

What do you think is the best way to do this?

    Hey there,

Thanks for posting back and sorry for missing your response on this one.

If you want to run your site in 2 different languages, you should look no further than : http://wpml.org/

If you want to create and manage the sites separately in 2 different languages then you can use WordPress multistie and create sites like

    yoursite.com/es

    yoursite.com/pr

and on the home page, just show a landing page with a link to both sites.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

If you are using WordPress multisite then you don’t need separate installations.

    It should be fine as

mysite.com – will serve as a landing page with a custom theme where you can simply have a link to other 2 sites.

es.mysite.com or mysite.com/es according to your Multisite type (Subdomain or Subdirectory)

    Same for other language.

If you are using WPML, then you can run multiple languages on a single site itself and in the sidebar you can view demo here : http://wpml.org/ (click view demo)

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers
