What is the VALUE of the Affiliate String with the Affiliate plugin?

I am busy setting up ViralInviter and want to incorporate the affiliate string into the URL.

The guy at support mentioned that I need to get the VALUE of the affiliate string.

What is that, or where would I find it?

Thanks!

George

As I understand it, if I have a affiliate link like domain.com/?ref=affiliatename-11,
then how would I call the '?ref=affiliatename-11' part?

Not real sure what the correct programming term would be, maybe a variable?

Just one more question. I know it might be basic but really don't want to screw this up!

Back to this...

As I understand it, if I have a affiliate link like domain.com/?ref=affiliatename-11,
then how would I call the '?ref=affiliatename-11' part?

The guy at VI used this as an example,

{TEXT} where xxx could be 1 like so
{TEXT}, therefore VALUE1 is the ID.

So I need to insert the '?ref=affiliatename-11' part into the VALUE1 area.

In reference to this code that you mentioned that exists on line 410:

408 // Set up the affiliation details
409 // Store a record of the reference
410 $reference = $user->user_login . '-' . strrev(sprintf('%02d', $user_ID + 35));
update_usermeta($user_ID, 'affiliate_reference', $reference);
update_usermeta($user_ID, 'affiliate_hash', 'aff' . md5(AUTH_SALT . $reference));
} else {
// Wipe the affiliation details
delete_usermeta($user_ID, 'affiliate_reference');
delete_usermeta($user_ID, 'affiliate_hash');
}

So would that be just $reference or $user_ID or something like '$user_ID + 35'?

Thanks,

George

Hiya,

The guy at VI used this as an example,

{TEXT} where xxx could be 1 like so
{TEXT}, therefore VALUE1 is the ID.

I'm really not quite sure what kind of code that is.

$reference holds the affiliate ID so you would need to add the '?ref=' like so:

$affiliate_url = '?ref=' . $reference;

Again, I'm not even sure what kind of code your example is so I can't tell you how the PHP would fit into that. Maybe they can assist with this.

Thanks,
Andrew

OK, just got this back from VI...

Hi George,

alright.

So the concept would be this:
Your system would need to have the last part of the URl available someohow, meaning "georgefourie-97" should be avariable that you can display somewhere via for example a php code.

Then, you would use any of the integration methods and call the Vi interface like this:

http://www.domain.com/vi-install-folder/inviter.php?custom2=YOURAFFID

in your case, this should look like this:

http://www.domain.com/vi-install-folder/inviter.php?custom2=georgefourie-97

If your team is somehow able to produce the URL above, then you can have this result in your invite emails (and i will show you in the next step of our conversation HOW):

http://thatmlmbeat.com/?ref=georgefourie-97

Can you check if you can produce that URL?

Little confusing for me. Is there a way to make it work?

I know this is a old thread.. But I bought that VI program awhile ago.. It had some major bugs in it. Though he released update regularly the code was compiled and he had it expire every couple weeks so you would be forced to reinstall the thing all the time. Crazy annoying.

I have been looking at this open inviter plugin.. But I am concerned about turning my machine into some kinda ultimate spam bot.

@jozwikjp

Yes, I've had VI for a while and actually dug up this thread yesterday to reset this up.

It worked great when it was working.

Although ,there are many of the social networks etc that I won't use with it.

I personally think it's best to just use with email and be very clear on how it must be used and setup the settings in a non spammy way.

Powerful tool if you are just cautious with it.
