When adding a domain to domain mapping admin, it just disappears when I click on add

When adding a domain to domain mapping admin, it just disappears when I click on add.

I followed all the instructions, though there was no mention of sunrise in my wp-config.php file, so I copied/pasted the line from the install info on the site.

Yeah, you may have to write it in. It’s not commented out is it?

Is there anything in your error logs? I just double-checked and it’s working fine on one of my test installs. You can also check for the table wp_domain_map and see if the information is being stored there – and disable any other plugins as a wayward javascript could also lead to this issue.

That may explain it, there is no wp_domain_map table in the db

Yeah, the plugins should create that table for you automatically. You can try adding it manually or deleting and re-installing the domain mapping plugin.

The SQL needed to create the table manually starts around line 366 of the domain mapping plugin.

I think I must be having a blonde moment, how do I run that?

I tried importing and putting it into a php file, but must have got that wrong.

Ah – you’ll need to do it through something like PHPMyAdmin.

Upon logging in, you’ll see an SQL tab. Just click on that tab and enter the contents there and click ‘run’.

Always a best practice to make a backup of your database first! One bad SQL query and you can have a real mess on your hands :slight_smile:

ok, that is now in the db.

However, I still have the same problem, when I add the domain name, it disappears without adding anything.

For some reason the domain mapping plugin isn’t working correctly.

You don’t have it inside a sub-folder in mu-plugins do you? It should be:

mu-plugins/domain-mapping.php

I can’t think of any other reason why this wouldn’t be working correctly. What are your permissions for wp-content and mu-plugins?

The file is in there as you have it above. The permissions on both filoes are 777.

I ahd this, then I had to redo the site, so reuploaded everything and it was still not working, so not sure what the problem is.

I read somewhere on the forums that somebody said they had the problem, but once the admin put in a domain to domain mapping, all the users could do so.

I just tried that as a last resort, and it worked, though I don’t know why.

I’m having the same problem with adding the custom domain and clicking “Add” and then it disappears. However, when I looked in phpMyAdmin, I found the wp_domain_mapping table (btw, I use a custom prefix for my tables instead of the default “wp_”:wink:. However, in the Collation column, instead of “utf8_general_ci”, it shows “latin1_swedish_ci”. I’m assuming this is because of the /languages/ directory not being installed… which I mentioned in an earlier post about the installation instructions being incomplete… the official instructions say to 3) upload domain-mapping.php to the /wp-content/mu-plugins folder on your site and 4) Upload sunrise.php to the /wp-content folder on your site… but the instructions say nothing about uploading the actual /domain-mapping/ directory – including the /languages/ directory contained within to anywhere. Please advise.

if you add any domain as admin on domain mapping, you can then delete it and domain mapping should work for all users.

I don’t know why that sorts it out, but it does :o/

Thanks WP3 Member. I tried it and for whatever reason, the domain mapping worked on my default blog, but won’t save within the dashboard of any members.

I think it has to do with how I have installed the plugin. Here are a few questions:

Am I supposed to upload the /domain_mapping/ directory to /plugins/ or /mu-plugins/? The directions say nothing about the directory and instead instruct the user to install the domain_mapping.php file to /mu-plugins/.

Is the Domain Mapping plugin supposed to show as an actual plugin within the Network Admin Plugin page?

Am I supposed to be able to set the Domain Mapping plugin as a Premium Plugin under Settings/Supporter/Premium Plugins page?

I’m no expert, as you can tell from above, but I’ll aander what i can.

The domain mapping plugin should be in mu-plugins, and it will not show up in the plugins section in the usual way. To make the plugin premium, you should select that in the settings section of your network. At the bottom of the settings page, it will ask if you want it to be for supporters only.

When you use the mu-plugins folder, it does not work in the same way as the plugins folder. You will need to have at least one file in the root of mu-plugins, so that it can tell wp what to do. So, for example, if you upload the entire domain mapping folder, it will not know what to do with it, just uload the domain-mapping.php file.

I am not sure where the languages folder would go, but would guess that you just upload that whole folder to mu-plugins. However, it may be best to wait to hear from somebody who knows the correct answer to that :o)

We are working on an update to the domain mapping plugin and I will include the developers on this thread so that they can take a look at this while they’re updating the code base.
