Why is Home Page showing "cached" sample page?

Hi there,

I am using Infinite SEO, and trying to figure out why my homepage is showing a "cached URL" instead of the home page URL?

I want it to show main URL, however it's showing, mainurl/sample-page.

Why is this?

Can you show me how to fix this? Or do I need to use Yoast SEO or another option?

    Hey there, Sam!

    This is actually a Google issue, not one with Infinite SEO, but I do have a solution for you. You'll need to use Google's outdated content removal tool.

    Follow the instructions below if the short description of the page in search results (the snippet) or the cached version of the page is out of date.https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1663691?hl=en

    1. Go to the Remove outdated content page.
    2. In the "Enter URL of outdated content" box, paste the URL of the page. (Learn how to find the URL of the page)
    3. Click Request removal.
    4. If you see “Has the site owner updated or removed the content,” select Yes.
    5. Select The snippet and cache are outdated.
    6. Explain exactly what is outdated about the snippet or page. In this box, enter in a word that is on the old version of the page from Google’s search results that is not on the current version of the page. For example, the cached page might show your name, which isn’t in the new version. In this case, don’t write "my name has been removed," but instead type your name as it appears in the cached version.
    7. Click Request Removal.

    Thanks, Sam!

    Hello @Sam

    I hope you are well today.

    The text you see like the above posted screenshot, is just a preview example. There is no relation with real google data with this. It's just a static preview of this link.

    Now, you are not seeing home page URL there rather you are seeing original URL of that page. Because, the plugin doesn't detect the front page in back end. As I said, the purpose is just showing a preview, nothing else. So, you don't need to worry about it :slight_smile:

    If you want to show the home page url when you edit the home page, you need to make a little change in code. Please go to /plugins/wpmu-dev-seo/wds-files/wds-core/admin/wds-core-metabox.php line no 106 to 100 and replace

    <p>
    					<a href="#" style="font-size: 13px; color: #282; line-height: 15px;" class="url"><?php echo str_replace('http://','',get_bloginfo('url')).'/'.$slug.'/'; ?></a> - <a href="#" class="util">Cached</a> - <a href="#" class="util">Similar</a>
    					<?php if (is_multisite() && (is_admin() || is_network_admin()) && class_exists('domain_map')) { ?>
    						<small style="opacity:.5"><i><?php esc_html_e(__('The URL preview may be thwarted by domain mapping', 'wds')); ?></i></small>
    					<?php } ?>
    				</p>

    with the following:

    <?php
    					$pid = isset( $_REQUEST['post'] ) ? $_REQUEST['post'] : '';
    					if( $pid != '' ){
    						$pfront = get_option( 'page_on_front' );
    						if( $pid == $pfront ){
    							$final_url = str_replace('http://','',get_bloginfo('url')) . '/';
    						}else{
    							$final_url = str_replace('http://','',get_bloginfo('url')).'/'.$slug.'/';
    						}
    					}
    				?>
    				<p>
    					<a href="#" style="font-size: 13px; color: #282; line-height: 15px;" class="url"><?php echo $final_url ?></a> - <a href="#" class="util">Cached</a> - <a href="#" class="util">Similar</a>
    					<?php if (is_multisite() && (is_admin() || is_network_admin()) && class_exists('domain_map')) { ?>
    						<small style="opacity:.5"><i><?php esc_html_e(__('The URL preview may be thwarted by domain mapping', 'wds')); ?></i></small>
    					<?php } ?>
    				</p>

    Hope it helps :slight_smile: Please feel free to ask more question if you have.

    Cheers

    Hello @Sam

    I hope you are well today.

    So you are saying the "cached" screenshot I am seeing is NOT what google is seeing?

    Yes, google will see its own cached version.

    Also, if it's not a big deal, then what will the new code do again? Just have the right cached URL show up in the preview? Is that it?

    Yes, it's just the preview you see for cached URL, that's it :slight_smile:

    Hope it helps :slight_smile: Please feel free to ask more question if you have.

    Cheers
