wildcard (*) subdomain and IP address

Dear Sir,

I try set up multi-domain plugin.

My main site IP 50.62.43.126, I have point all the top domains to this IP and add an A record .

But when I Create a New Account at WHM, and add * subdomain, the domain/site

automatic goes to my main IP 50.63.181.15.

The problem here is that WHM is routing the domains to different accounts, and therefore different IPs.

not go to my main site IP 50.62.43.126

Now my main site have

“Warning! Wildcard DNS for domains.COM may not be configured correctly!”

What is the best solution to solved the problem.

    Hi @hi999,

I’m not sure I understand what you mean here. So when you’re creating new cPanel accounts, are you using a subdomain on your primary domain for this?

If this is the case, you’ll need to add a new A record for that specific subdomain and point it to the correct IP address.

Any subdomains that you create A or CNAME records for explicitly will be used instead of the wildcard. The wildcard will only apply if there isn’t another record to use.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @hi999,

I’m sorry for the delay here. I’m still a bit confused about your setup…

My main site IP 50.62.43.126, I have point all the top domains to this IP and add an A record .

But when I Create a New Account at WHM, and all the domain/site automatic goes to my main IP 50.63.181.15.

You’re saying that both are the main IP, so which is it? From what I can tell, 50.62.43.126 is where your WordPress multisite installation is setup.

I think your problem is that you’re creating multiple cPanel accounts to begin with. For multi-domains to work, all the domains must point to the same IP address. Creating a cPanel account for a domain allows it to be placed on a different IP address.

Instead of creating new cPanel accounts for your domain, you need to enter the cPanel account for your main site and add all the domains as add-on domains within that account.

You should only create new accounts in WHM if you intend those domains to be managed separately and used for different purposes.

    Hi Alexander,

    Thank you for kind help.

My hosting AC is godaddy reseller hosting, first IP is 50.63.181.15

but could have three IP. So I think first IP 50.63.181.15 as a reseller site.

apply 50.62.43.126, as my main site and point all the top domains to this IP and add an A record .

(The problem may I should user first IP as main site.)

I hope all the user could apply subdomain for each domain, and have they own subdomains.domain.com could go to them sites.

those top domains could managed by main site and separately used for different purposes/sites.

User could go to different top sites and subdomain sites.

I may should add all the domains as add-on domains within main account.

I go to main site cpanel try addon domains why

“Sorry, you are not allowed to add any more than (0) addon domains! The domain below was not setup!”

For multi domains plugin I am set is right or not? Please see all the screenshot.

How to add subdomains.domain.com that need have a new account for topdomain first ?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Alexander,

    Thank you for kind help.

    Configuring Wildcard Subdomains

    CPanel

Make a sub-domain named “*” (wildcard) at your CPanel (*.example.com). Make sure to point this at the same folder location where your wp-config.php file is located.

In order to configuring wildcard subdomains, I must first go to WHM

    Home »Account Functions »Create a New Account

    then go to

    Home »Account Information »List Accounts

Make a sub-domain named “*” (wildcard) at your CPanel (*.example.com).

All the domains need do the same, right?

point this at the same folder location where your wp-config.php file is located.

    *.110tv.com home/public_html Is OK?

    Thank you!

    Hi @hi999,

No, you don’t want to add these in WHM. That’s what’s causing them to map to different IPs.

In WHM, create one cPanel account.

    Go into that cPanel

Add all of your domains as addon-domains.

Go to Advanced DNS settings in that cPanel, and configure the wildcard DNS from there.

This should ensure they are all pointing to the same WordPress site.

    ANISTANOK.COM

    not the /public_htm right!

It depends on where WordPress is installed.

The domain needs to point to the same folder as your WordPress multisite installation. If WordPress is in /public_html that’s what your document root should be.

    Hi @hi999,

That’s a GoDaddy screenshot. Are you managing DNS with GoDaddy for all your domains?

Can we try something else? I’d hate to continue if I may end up confusing you.

I won’t be able to log in to setup your multisite, but I can test your DNS settings for you.

Can you send me an email? Please include a list containing all the domains that you wish to use with Multisite. Like this:

    24hws.com

    110tv.com

    afghanistanok.com

    etc.

I know it’s alot, so it could take a bit of time – but I think this would still be faster than going back and forth about the settings.

Once I test the domain settings, I can let you know which ones work, and which ones need additional configuration.

You can send this list through our contact form: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

    – Choose “I have a different question”

    – Include my name in the subject “Alexander Rohmann”

    – Include a link back to this thread

    – Include any relevant login information

    Hi Alexander,

First step, I do at godaddy managing DNS with GoDaddy for all domains?

Second, WHM, Addon Domains to main site.

    Please see the screenshot.

    Third WHM add Subdomains

    *.afghanistanok.24hws.com

    Please see the screenshot.

But at addon domains addtion, final why say subdomain is added, not say addon domains is added? Is addtion, should be OK,right? Please see the screenshot.

All the info will send to you. Please test it. I need add hundreds domains, so must make sure.

    Hi @hi999,

You do not create any subdomains.

You need a Wildcard A record that points to your main site IP address

You have not made it clear how you are managing DNS for these domains. It’s going to be very different depending on if DNS is managed at GoDaddy, or at your web hosting.

Do you have a dedicated IP Address?

    1. WordPress should be installed on a server with a dedicated IP address.

    2. Entering that IP address in your browser should resolve to your WordPress site.

    3. Each Addon domain should have an wildcard A record pointing to that IP address.

    Hi Alexander,

    Could you help me check,

Why still have a lot Wildcard DNS configured error? I can not find where I am may configured error.

Warning! Wildcard DNS for AUCTIONPRC.COM may not be configured correctly!

But I check it, try add subdomain again, is already exists.

Open the subdomain settings is very slow,

why every time the result is different.

and in WHM cpanel, for addon domains to add wildcard subdomains

mydomain.com , mydomain.net , mydomain.org only one subdomain could add to addon domains.

How to add other two domains.

*.auctionprc.maindomains.com is right? or should be *.auctionprc.com

Now I only add part of domains is so slow, how I can add all the domains? The plugins could work?

    Thanks!

@hi999, we’re going back and forth on this quite a bit. I fear this is because there is little consistency to how your domains are configured. Can you please send me an email containing the following information:

    1. cPanel access

    2. WordPress super admin access

    3. A full list of domains that you are trying to map.

    @hi999,

Alright, I’ve taken a look, and unfortunately we’re not close. I’ve mentioned that you should use “add on domains” many times before, but you haven’t added any of them. Instead you created a subdomain for each, which I said that you don’t need to do.

Furthermore, you’re still managing DNS at GoDaddy. This means that any DNS settings you create in cPanel won’t take effect at all. At this point you have two options:

    1. Go to GoDaddy and update your nameservers to point all the domains to the name servers of your webhost. Then you can create Addon Domains n your cPanel account for each domain.

    2. In GoDaddy, for each domain set the WWW A record to your IP address. Also create a wildcard A record that points to the same IP address You should use this IP: 50.62.43.126

ok I think we are very close! I’ve logged in to your GoDaddy account to check some things.

If I ping PAKISTANOK.COM, I get you IP address. If I ping any subdomain, I get your IP address as well. This means the DNS records are setup properly here.

I’m being taken to your signup page: http://24hws.com/register/

Are you aware of any domains that are not working? maybe we can narrow that down and test them out.

Otherwise, I think we have this piece of the puzzle solved, and can move on to your other thread where we are working with multi domains.
