Wordpress Multisite - Subdirectory 403 Forbidden Error

Hi all,

I am currently running into an issue when running my WPMU Network with subdirectory.

My first site is located at site.com and the second site under my network is located at site.com/example.

My first site (site.com) is working and running fine in the WPMU environment, however my subdirectory site.com/example is receiving a 403 Forbidden error, however, all posts and related content are showing up find underneath it (ex: site.com/example/hello-world etc.).

FWIW, here is a copy of my current htaccess in the root:

Options +FollowSymLinks

DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

#Protect the .htaccess File
<files .htaccess="">
order allow,deny
deny from all

# disable directory browsing
Options All -Indexes

<IfModule mod_deflate.c>
<FilesMatch "\.(js|css|php|html|js^|css^)$">
SetOutputFilter DEFLATE

# Force non-www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.site\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://site.com/ [L,R=301]

# BEGIN WordPress
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

# uploaded files
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]

# add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^ - [L]
RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L]
RewriteRule ^[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/(.*\.php)$ $1 [L]
RewriteRule . index.php [L]
# END WordPress

I have tried asking for support from my hosting provider (MT, but no luck). I am a bit lost as to how to remedy this issue as I am not sure what is happening to cause this, but I am open to any and all help!

Thank you in advance!
