    Hello @palmipede

Greetings and thanks for posting on the forums.

Is it possible to use Domain Mapping with a http://www.mydomain.com ? Or only fot a mydomain.com ?

I never suggest anyone to use and install WordPress multisite on a domain with www. So I will personally suggest you to install WordPress on mydomain.com so that there are no issues in the longer run if you are using a subdomain install.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers

    Hello,

I had big issues with database forcing domain with www with WP (old version)

I am going to use a recent version and I need to know if what I plan to do with it is possible or if WP can’t stand it.

I want to keep the main parent site (mydomain.com) empty, that way if WP can’t find a link from any child site, WP will provide an empty home page from the main parent site (no content excepted a form to point out the issue of a bad link)

The main parent (mydomain.com) is not empty now. I need to keep it and plan to shift it to http://www.mydomain.com and make mydomain.com free.

So I am going to create a new child site http://www.mydomain.com with the content of the old parent child, and then to remove content from mydomain.com

Is this possible or WP can’t stand this setting?

    Regards

    Hello @palmipede

Thanks for posting back and sorry for the delay in response. I was away due to a family emergency.

using www in a wordpress site, is certainly not a good thing to do as per my understanding. You can however choose to use it the way you want.

If you already have something on http://www.mydomain.com then you can not have something on mydomain.com without causing a lot of complications.

I will suggest you to develop the site elsewhere and then move it over to mydomain.com.

    Cheers, PC

    Hiya,

You can use any domain to map with a sub directory site.

For example you installed a subdirectory multisite on domain a.com

then you can create a sub site like a.com/subsiteb and you can easily map it to b.com

It works with both sub domain and sub directory installs.

I had a similar problem with multisite and multi domains… Turns out sometimes you can fix www. issues via your domain dns settings… Create a forwarder from www. to no www. Some DNS hosts don’t allow this though….

    Hiya,

Thanks for the post and the rating too.

Well this is one of the reasons I don’t install WordPress multisite with www in the main domain.

Wanna try it ? Go ahead, and you will see that in the field it asks you to put an email address (Network admin) it states the example as support@www.yourmaindomain.com instead of support@maindomain.com

Solutions are around but its better to be safe than sorry !
