Batch creating sites using Blog & User Creator or Batch Create

Creating sites using Super Admin > Sites SubPanel only allows you to create one site at a time.

Alternatively you can create blogs in batches by installing the following WPMU DEV plugins:

  1. Blog and User creator plugin
  2. Batch Create plugin

Both the Blog & User Creator and Batch Create:

  • Are time-saving feature for you and your users who regularly have to create numerous blogs for other people
  • Automatically create the new sites and don’t require the email verification to activate them–this means users can immediately log into their new site
  • Provide the option to set user password on create rather than automatically generated password provided by WordPress

Using Blog & User Creator

The Blog & User Creator allows you (or your users)  to create sites in batches of up to 15 users and sites at the same time, and they can add themselves as admin to the new sites when they create them.

As a co-administrator of the site they can log into it the new site (if required) to edit settings, appearance, comments, posts or pages.

It’s as simple as:

1.  Install the Blog and User creator plugin as per it’s installation instructions

2.  Once installed you’ll have the option to create sites via Users > Blog & User Creator

3.  Go to Users > Blog & User Creator

4.  Choose whether you want to use the simple or advanced version

  • With the simple version the blog names is used for both the username and site address unless a user already exists with that email address in which case that user will be added to the site you are creating
  • With the advanced version you can specify different name for the site url and username, set users passwords, set each site titles
  • To change to the advanced version click on the Advanced link at the top of the Blog & User Creator admin panel

5.  Fill in all details, remembering to select Yes if you want to be added as a co-administrator on the site and click Create

Using the Simple Version

  • In this example the site address (site URL) would be created as http://edutags.net/suewaters
  • Site Address’s (i.e. site URL’s) can’t be changed once created
  • Site titles can be changed at any time in Settings > General
  • If a user hasn’t already been created a username will be created using the site address. In this example the username would be suewaters.
  • If there is already a username attached to that email address the site will be attached to the existing username
  • Username can be changed to nickname by the user at any time by logging into their account and going to Users > Your Profile
  • The user is sent an email with their login details when their new site is created.
  • If the site is created attached to an existing username the login email sent to the user will say N/A for password because they already have a password

Using the Advanced Version

  • In this example the site address (site URL) would be created as http://edutags.net/elearning
  • The username would be seanp
  • Site Address’s (i.e. site URL’s) can’t be changed once created
  • Site titles can be changed at any time in Settings > General
  • Username can be changed to nickname by the user at any time by logging into their account and going to Users > Your Profile
  • The user is sent an email with their login details when their new site is created.
  • If the site is created attached to an existing username the login email sent to the user will say N/A for password because they already have a password

Using Batch Create

Batch Create is an advanced username and/or site creator that allows the Super Admin user to create tens, hundreds or thousand of blogs and users all at once.

It is designed for the advanced Super Admin user and is reliant on:

  • You understanding that only lowercase letters and numbers ca be used in both usernames and site addresses (site URL). Dots, underscore and characters aren’t allowed (causes broken blogs)
  • The CSV file being created properly using an appropriate simple Text Editor

Here’s how you use Batch Create:

1. Install the Batch Create plugin as per it’s installation instructions

2. Once installed you’ll have the option to create sites via Users > Blog & User Creator

3. Go to Users > Blog & User Creator
